Love Letters, by Randall D. Kittle

When I was going to college, my wife, Gini, and I (who had been dating for more than two years) were separated by hundreds of miles, which often seemed like thousands. One day something happened that I will never forget. After lunch I went to check my mailbox to see if I had received any mail. Something appeared wrong with my box. The little glass window through which I normally spied my mail was totally black.

As I inquisitively opened my box, I found that it was completely filled with love letters from Gini. There were big ones and little ones. Some were fancy and ornate, while others were just homemade cards. In some were short little notes letting me know how much she cared, while in others she talked of her hopes and dreams for us. It seemed as though many different aspects of her love for me had been captured right there in that mailbox through those love letters. How many? Well to be honest I’ve forgotten whether it was 50 or 55. But this I recall as if it were just yesterday, the time and effort she spent to send them to me made me feel very special, and I treasured reading each and every letter.

As believers, our Bridegroom has sent us a great many love letters also. Sixty-six to be precise. They vary from poetry to love songs to His plans for spending our future together. He has painstakingly preserved each letter through the ages so that we might know how special we are to Him, and how much He loves us. Let us treasure His love letters and never cease to delight in reading them over and over. In fact, He has bound His letters together so we won’t lose even one. We call them the Bible.
