“Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” — John 7:38
Big Fruit in Dry Times, by Gini Kittle

This last summer was an exceptionally dry summer for most of us here in the United States.  In my hometown of Rockford, Illinois, it is the second driest summer on record.

Knowing this, you can imagine my surprise when my brother told me that his wife’s tomatoes were so large she was having a hard time canning them!  When I questioned him about it, he explained that her crop was well watered so the drought didn’t affect them, and because of all the sunshine (no rainy days here) they grew especially large.

I thought to myself that is exactly what we Christians need to remember!  We are living in a land of spiritual drought. These are dry days as far as our society receiving the Good News of the Gospel or even tolerating the truth of the Word of God being proclaimed. But if we will stay “well watered” by the water of the Word in this time of drought, we can still produce large fruit — fruit that will impact and attract a world that will increasingly find itself parched.
