As most men can tell you, timing in sports is critical. Whether its throwing a long pass in football, hitting a baseball, or setting a hook when fishing — a bit too soon or a little too late turns celebration into frustration. It is also the same in the prophetic. Timing is vitally important. Proverbs 25:11 tells us that “Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.” For a prophecy to be maximally effective, it must be spoken to the right people, at the right time, in the right way.

When I first started walking in the prophetic, the biggest problem I had was thinking that because the Lord was speaking or stirring things so powerfully in me that I had to share it right at that moment. My thinking was that since the “unction” of the Holy Spirit was so strong I needed to declare it before it waned.

I want to share with you what the Lord told me that immeasurably helped me understand the truth that the impact of a prophetic word doesn’t fade if it is held onto and released in the proper timing. This is what He said,
“Prophecy’s not Pepsi … it is living water!” When we open a new bottle of soda, it is important to drink it in a timely manner or else it loses its fizz. Flat soda really doesn’t taste as good, and is generally just tossed out. But prophetic words from God don’t go flat or lose their “fizz” because they’re not like Pepsi — they are living water. God’s living water continually bubbles up like an artesian well bringing life and refreshing, and it can be kept till the proper timing for its release without losing any of its transforming power.
